Our New Blog Series!

Writer's picture: Camille JacksonCamille Jackson

We will be starting a new Blog series on poultry breeds and all of their attributes, faults, and origins!

Our fist breed and variety will be (Large Fowl) New Hampshires!❤️

These gentle giants are a farm favorite here at Rooster Creek whether that be their beautiful reddish-gold body, red laced black tail feathers and pattered hackle (neck) feathers on the females. New Hampshires are a dual-purpose chicken meaning they can be used for egg production and meat.

Some things to take into consideration before adding these hefty chickens to your barnyard or showroom. They are quite wide loads with males having long sickle (long tail feathers) feathers and weighing in on 8 lbs. with females at 6 1/2 lbs. Yet when raising for meat that is more of an advantage.

This breed originated around 1915 in the United States. They were first entered into New Hampshire coming from Rhode Island and Massachusetts. With New Hampshires being greatly bred for fast feathering, energy, and brown to light-colored eggs.

Thank You for reading!😁 Please share with your chicken friends. And comment on any new information you have gained about New Hampshire's or any other breed you have at home.😊

Or any other New Hampshire Varieties other than Red that you may be working on.
